Haldi, Mehendi and Sangeet Decorators in Vijayawada

Three functions, three completely different design problems, usually planned as one line item. They are not one line item.

Haldi

Morning, outdoors if possible, and it will get messy — that is the point. So the decor has to be washable. Marigold strings, earthen pots, a low seat the couple can be reached from all sides, and floor covering that can take turmeric and water.

What goes wrong: fabric that stains permanently, a seat too high for people to reach over, and no thought given to where everyone washes afterwards. We plan the wash-up point as part of the haldi, not as an afterthought.

Mehendi

Entirely about seating. People sit still for two to four hours with their hands occupied, which means:

• Back support, not floor cushions alone
• Somewhere to rest the arm while the artist works
• Shade and air — mehendi dries badly in direct heat and Vijayawada afternoons are hot
• Food that can be eaten one-handed, or fed. Nothing that needs two hands.
• Light that lets the artist see detail, and lets the photographs show it

Decor is secondary to all of the above, and the best mehendi setups are built around the seating plan rather than around a backdrop.

Sangeet

This is a performance space, so it is staging and lighting rather than florals. A stage with enough depth for a group, a clear sightline from the family seating, sound that covers the room without deafening the front row, and a lighting plan that changes between performances instead of sitting on one wash.

The practical constraint in Vijayawada: many function halls have fixed ceiling heights and limited rigging points, so the lighting design has to be worked out at the site visit. A sangeet plan drawn without seeing the hall usually will not hang.

All three at one venue

Common, and it means three decor changeovers in two days. Each changeover needs its own crew window written into the schedule, or the mehendi starts while the haldi is still being swept up.
