Photography and videography get quoted together and judged together, which hides the fact that they are different crafts with different crews. A studio can be excellent at stills and ordinary at film. This is how wedding videography actually works in Hyderabad, and what to ask before you book it.
The three kinds of wedding video
Traditional video is the long-form record — the full ritual, start to finish, lightly edited, often two to four hours. Parents and grandparents care about this one, and couples who skip it tend to regret it.
Cinematic film is an edited narrative of 3–8 minutes, colour graded, scored, cut for emotion rather than chronology. This is what most couples now mean by “candid videography”.
Teaser or reel is 60–90 seconds, cut for Instagram, sometimes delivered the same night as a same-day edit.
Most packages should include traditional and cinematic. They serve different people and neither replaces the other.
What it costs in Hyderabad
- Single function, traditional video only — ₹18,000–35,000
- Single function, candid + cinematic edit — ₹40,000–75,000
- Full wedding (2–3 functions), video + film — ₹90,000–1.8 lakh
- Premium multi-day with a larger crew — ₹2.5–5 lakh
- Drone coverage — ₹15,000–35,000 add-on
- Same-day edit shown at the reception — ₹25,000–60,000
- Pre-wedding film, half day — ₹30,000–70,000
The number is driven by crew size and days, not by camera bodies. Two videographers plus an editor for three functions is simply more people for more days.
Crew — the question that predicts the result
For a single function, one videographer covers the stage and misses the room. Two cover stage and crowd. For a reception with an entry sequence, two is the practical minimum and three is comfortable. Ask for the number per function in writing, and ask who is operating — the lead you saw in the showreel, or an associate.
Lighting, which is where Hyderabad weddings are won or lost
Most receptions here are evening events under mixed stage lighting — warm uplighters, cool LED walls, a spot on the couple. Video is far less forgiving of that mix than stills are. A crew that works with your decor and lighting team, rather than arriving on the night, produces visibly better footage. If your planner is handling both decor and film, this coordination is free; if not, introduce them yourself.
Deliverables, in numbers
Get these written into the contract rather than described:
- Traditional video — length per function, resolution
- Cinematic film — runtime, number of revision rounds
- Teaser or reel — runtime, aspect ratios (vertical matters now)
- Delivery timeline — 4–8 weeks is normal; four months happens and should be refused
- Raw footage policy — whether you get it, on what media, and for how long it is kept
- Music licensing — whose responsibility if the film is posted publicly
Ten questions before you book
- Can I watch one complete film, start to finish — not a showreel?
- Who is the lead videographer on my dates, by name?
- How many videographers per function?
- Have you shot at my venue, and how did you handle its lighting?
- Do you shoot gimbal, handheld or tripod — and why, for my functions?
- Is audio recorded separately for the vows and speeches? (On-camera audio in a loud hall is unusable.)
- Who edits, and how many revision rounds are included?
- What is the delivery date in the contract?
- What happens if a shooter falls ill?
- Payment schedule and cancellation terms?
Question 6 is the one most people never ask, and the one that most often ruins an otherwise good film.
The scheduling point worth more than any gear
Block a fixed 30–45 minute slot for family group shots and tell both families the time in advance. Weddings where this is left to “after the muhurtham, whenever” are the ones where half the relatives have left before anyone is filmed. It costs nothing and is the most common avoidable regret.
